Your First All-on-4® Consultation

Only four dental implants are needed to replace the teeth on the upper or lower arch of the jaw, thus the name All-on-4®. During your first consultation for All-on-4®, our Placerville dentist discusses your goals. For example, do you prefer permanently attached dentures, or the type that snap-on and off the dental implants? What color and appearance would you want for the teeth? What is your medical background and how will it affect your procedure? Are you using All-on-4® for both the upper and lower arch, or just one?

In addition to these personal questions, x-rays and scans are made to reveal the vital bone structure that we use to anchor your dental implants. Based on the available jawbone, we select the type of All-on-4® procedure needed and the implants necessary to guarantee success.

Installing the All-on-4® Implants

Digital information about your jaw, gumline and bone structure is used to create guides that assist the dentist to place the implants precisely. Some tooth extractions may be necessary and modifications might be made to your gumline for cosmetic reasons. The dental implants are all installed at the same time. For most patients, after verifying the strength of the implants’ connection to the bone, temporary “healing dentures” are screwed in place on the implants, so you can leave our dental office with a full set of teeth on the same day as your procedure.

Providing Your New Teeth

After a healing period of two to three months, the dental implants have integrated with your jawbone and can handle the forces generated by chewing with standard dentures. During that time, your customized dentures were created according to your specifications. When you return, we remove the healing dentures and install the permanent dentures. If they are the removable type, we make certain you can take them on and off easily before leaving our office.
