Eating garlic, curry, onions and other strongly flavored foods means that powerful scents are going to stick around. But just as there are foods that ruin your breath, there are also foods that make your breath fresher! The following foods not only help you improve your breath, but they’re good for the rest of your body too!
Green tea: catechin, an antioxidant that’s found in green tea, wards off oral bacteria that contribute to bad breath. Green tea is made from the same type of plant as black, tea but because it is processed differently it has less caffeine and more bad breath killers.
Parsley: the oils in parsley are very effective for combating bad breath, thus its presence on many diner plates as a garnish. Other herbs and spices also help to mask foul breath, such as cilantro, rosemary, and eucalyptus. These have been used since ancient times to ward off foul smells.
Apples and other fruits: an apple a day keeps bad breath away too! Eating fresh apples or pears is good for your mouth and helps it make saliva to balance the oral bacterial in your mouth. Other fruits high in vitamin C, like citrus fruits, also help to keep your gums healthy.
Vegetables: instead of snacking on refined foods that contribute to tooth decay, like chips and candy, switch to crunchy vegetables. Cucumbers, carrots and celery all promote saliva production to rinse your mouth with essential minerals while strengthening tooth enamel, keeping bones strong and leaving better breath.
Water: drinking water also helps to improve your breath. By drinking up to eight glasses a day you will find you have fewer food cravings and drink less coffee or dehydrating caffeinated sodas.
