Aetna Dental Insurance
Aetna offers four different dental insurance plans – an HMO, a PPO, the Indemnity Plan and a Hybrid Plan. While not offering individual plans for Californians seeking dental insurance, Aetna does work with businesses seeking dental plans for their employees.
Aetna Dental HMO
Aetna calls this plan a DMO or Dental Maintenance Organization. You are assigned a Primary Care Dentist who provides for most all of your dental needs, with referrals to specialists for some specific dental procedures. The HMO option from Aetna is the least expensive out of all their dental insurance plans.
Aetna Dental PPO
The Aetna PPO lets you choose your own dentist, with discounts on plan services if you opt for a dentist in the Aetna network, such as those at the Placerville Dental Group. While the premiums are higher than under the DMO plan, the Aetna PPO gives you greater flexibility, especially in your choice of a specialist should you need one.
Aetna Indemnity Dental Plan
Under this plan, similar to self-insurance, an employer can have workers participate in the Aetna DMO or an indemnity plan. If an employee chooses the indemnity option, they pay for their own dental costs and are then reimbursed. The indemnity plan works well for employees who have an established dentist and do not want to switch. DMO participants have all the benefits of the Aetna DMO plan.
Aetna Dental Hybrid Plan
Under the Aetna Hybrid Plan, employers may offer either the Aetna DMO or the Aetna PPO dental insurance plans. This lets employees with an established dentist choose the PPO plan and employees without a preferred dentist to select the cheaper DMO option.
Aetna has one of the largest selections of insurance plan options for business owners offering dental insurance. And while the Placerville Dental Group recommends the PPO insurance method, Aetna’s variety of plans means both employer and employee can find a good match for their needs.
